What is a heat exchanger




A heat exchanger is a device used for efficient heat transfer from one medium to another. Media may be separated by solid walls so that they never mix, or they may come into direct contact. Widely used in space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power plants, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, refineries, natural gas processing, etc. A common example of a heat exchanger is a radiator in a car, where a heat source (i.e. hot engine coolant) transfers heat to the air passing through the radiator (i.e. heat transfer medium)
